This makes the LS600 an optimal choice for multiple markets: environmental, geo-technical / geo-construction, water and mining. And with 20 years of development and in-field testing, customers can be confident the LS600 will provide maximum reliability and productivity</div><div> </div><div>“Boart Longyear is proud to continue its tradition of drilling innovation by offering the LS600 sonic rig and tooling,” said Kevin Tomaszewski, director of global product management at Boart Longyear. “By releasing the LS600 for purchase, we deliver advanced sonic technology to the field, allowing drillers to gather continuous and undisturbed core samples in varying and difficult ground formations.”</div><div> </div><div>The technology incorporates sonic frequencies that match the resonant energy of the ground, allowing the core barrel to easily advance in unconsolidated and difficult overburden formations. During drilling, boreholes are cased continuously by first allowing the core barrel to advance into the substrate, followed by the outer casing.</div><div> </div><div>This protective measure allows for the accurate measurement of continuous in-situ (undisturbed) core samples, even in varying ground conditions. The LS600 is ideal for mining applications such as tailings and heap leach pad exploration.</div><div> </div><div>Drillers can gather accurate core samples twice as fast with Sonic technology and reduce waste by up to 80 percent, because no fluid, air or mud is needed. The LS600 can reach a drilling depth of up to 182 meters (600 ft).</div><div> </div><div>The Sonic head of the drill produces frequencies of up to 150 Hertz through a robust oscillator assembly. An innovative air spring system protects the rig from the extreme vibrations and redirects the energy down the drill string to the bit face. The Sonic head also features a proven reliable transmission, which is further backed by Boart Longyear’s Sonic Head Service Program.</div><div> </div><div>Sonic rig tooling and accessories are sold with the LS600 and leasing options are available. </div><div> </div><div>To learn more about the LS600 and Sonic technology, visit <a href="http://www.boartlongyear.com/ls600"><span style="color: #ff6600"><u>http://www.boartlongyear.com/ls600</u></span></a>. </div><div> </div><div><b>About Boart Longyear</b></div><div>Boart Longyear is the world’s largest mineral exploration drilling company. The awards are voted on by the readers of Mining Magazine, and the UMX bits were chosen as the breakthrough product for the exploration sector this year.</div><div> </div><div>“Having the UMX diamond coring bits selected for the exploration award is a real honor and a tribute to the bit’s innovative design,” said Kevin Tomaszewski, Global Director of Product Management for Boart Longyear. “We’re confident drillers who use UMX bits will experience the significant productivity advantages that this award symbolizes.”</div><div> </div><div>UMX bits are engineered to drill faster, last longer and outperform existing bit technology in a wide range of drilling conditions and ground formations. The UMX uses advanced metallurgical formulas with larger impregnated diamonds to provide increased penetration capabilities, turning easily from one ground formation to another. The all-in-one quality of the UMX translates to less tripping and increased productivity.</div><div> </div><div>By utilizing Boart Longyear’s patented Stage™ waterway technology, UMX bits offer crown heights up to an unprecedented 25 mm. The geometry of these windows sustains the integrity of the bit through the entire 25 mm, providing maximum bit-life. The Twin-Taper design dramatically improves surface flushing, forcing debris through the windows while keeping the bit face clear and reinforcing the inner-diameter.</div><div> </div><div>The unique Razorcut™ protrusions, or bumps, on the surface of the bit contain diamonds that enable the bit to begin cutting right out of the box. The arrangement of these protrusions also improves the tracking and balance in the hole when drilling begins.</div><div> </div><div>To learn more about this product, visit <a href="http://www.boartlongyear.com/umx"><span style="color: #ff6600"><u>www.boartlongyear.com/umx</u></span></a></div><div> </div><div><b><u>About Boart Longyear</u></b></div><div>Boart Longyear is a 120-year-old global mineral exploration company that provides mineral exploration services and drilling products for the global mining industry and also has a substantial drilling presence for water exploration, environmental sampling, energy, and oil sands exploration.</div><div> </div><div>Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, with 2010 sales of US$1.5 billion and over 9,000 employees worldwide, the company conducts contract drilling services in 40 countries, and</div><div>provides mining products to customers in over 100 countries. Depending on the start date of various holiday shutdowns, 2011 performance may exceed both figures, given the current strength of market demand.</p><div>The Company also expects three recent initiatives to significantly contribute to its growth in 2012 and beyond: </div><div>1) The creation of Boart Longyear Financial Services (BLFS);</div><div>2) Global expansion of mine water drilling services; and</div><div>3) <a href="http://www.boartlongyear.com/sonic"><span><font color="#0000ff">Sonic equipment</font></span></a> sales to the drilling industry worldwide.</div><div> </div><div><b>Boart Longyear Financial Services</b>: BLFS offers customers competitive financing solutions for leasing or purchasing Boart Longyear drilling equipment. All of the Company’s manufactured <a href="http://www.boartlongyear.com/web/guest/drilling-equipment"><span><font color="#0000ff">drilling capital equipment</font></span></a> can be financed through BLFS, including multi-purpose, production, reverse circulation, rotary, sonic, and surface and underground coring rigs. The new service will enable Boart Longyear to enhance customer service while expanding drilling capital equipment sales. Currently, all BLFS transactions are financed on a non-recourse basis through third party providers, minimizing the impact on the Company’s balance sheet.</div><div> </div><div><b>Mine Water Services</b>: The Company has recently allocated a significant amount of capital expenditure to expand its rig fleet for mine water supply and dewatering services. This investment supports both the contracted and rapidly increasing global demand for this unique and technical drilling. Boart Longyear will leverage itsNorth American expertise to provide these services to mines in Latin America, Africa, and Asia Pacific by utilising in-house drilling processes developed over 30 years in the broken and unconsolidated United States’ Rocky Mountain geology.</div><div> </div><div><b>Sonic Equipment Sales</b>: Boart Longyear has begun sellingits sonic drilling technology, including drill rigs and other equipment, to third parties. Sonic technology produces high-quality, undisturbed core samples more quickly and with less waste than conventional methods by utilising high frequency vibratory “dry” drilling techniques. The Company’s proprietary sonic drilling technology has been regarded as the best in the industry for many years. Boart Longyear soon will complement its sonic product offerings with operator training services and aftermarket support, providing sonic drilling solutions for its drilling customers around the world.</div><div> </div><div>Craig Kipp, CEO of Boart Longyear, states, “The mineral exploration market continues to perform extremely well despite current macroeconomic headwinds. Rig demand, product backlog and pricing in both the Drilling Services and Products businesses continue to indicate a positive outlook.</div><div> </div><div>“Driven by the second year of significant organic reinvestment in the business, Boart Longyear’s revenue per rig, metres per employee and global footprint continue to expand. Rig utilisation for Drilling Services continues at approximately 75 percent, consistent with our strategy of driving performance, not utilisation. Finally, our eight primary new drilling products launched during this year are seeing strong demand”.</div><div> </div><div>Boart Longyear will host a Question and Answer session on 30 November, at 5:00 p.m. MST or 1 December, at 11:00 a.m. Sydney time. The first half dividend will be 35 percent franked and is expected to be paid on 7 October 2011 to shareholders of record on 9 September 2011.</div><div> </div><div><b>OUTLOOK</b></div><div>Operating trends continue to be favourable and demand for products and services remains robust. Taking these and other positive business indicators into consideration, and assuming normal seasonality in November and December, the Company is upgrading its 2011 full year guidance. Estimated revenues for full year 2011 are now expected to be US$1.9 billion, which is 29 percent higher than full year 2010, and EBITDA for 2011 is expected to be US$330 million, a 49 percent increase over full year 2010.</div><div> </div><div>The Company remains focused on increasing shareholder value through organic growth, product innovation, and margin expansion. Capital expenditure in 2011 is expected to be US$210 million, an increase of US$10 million over previous guidance.</div><div> </div><div>Boart Longyear continued to experience rapid growth in the first half and expects this market will continue to grow during the remainder of 2011. Rig utilization is being managed in the Drilling Services division to allow for proper driller training, optimisation of contracts, and maintaining key clients.</div><div> </div><div><div>The Products division has finished several capacity additions and can adequately support expected demand through 2012. Inventory levels continue to be maintained at higher than normal levels in most regional warehouses, supporting faster response times for Products customers.</div><div> </div><div>As planned, eight new products were launched in the first half of 2011, with more planned by the end of the year. The Company will continue to invest in new assets, R&D, and also in rigorous employee training as the hiring continues. Consolidation of the global footprint continues with a new manufacturing facility in Perth and a new R&D center combined with the regional headquarters in Adelaide.</div><div> </div><div>Boart Longyear’s CEO, Craig Kipp, commented, “The continued improvement in first half earnings is the result of the recent strong commodity market and the Company’s preparation in 2010 for this expected demand. Last year we successfully invested in drilling productivity, manufacturing capacity and multiple new products.</div><div> </div><div>“Additionally, we have finished the restructuring of our capital structure. In the past 6 months we have retired all previous IPO debt facilities with new senior notes and a bank debt facility. These facilities took advantage of historically low interest rates and supported our desire for staggered maturities, with limited covenants, through the cycle.”</div><div> </div><div>Mr. Kipp continued, “We expect to see continued strong growth in our markets and positive pricing trends during the upcoming annual re-contracting period. This is only the second re-pricing period during the recent market recovery. Since material and labour costs have increased significantly since 2008, margin recovery may lag peak 2008 performance until global pricing levels reach new post-2008 benchmarks. We are hopeful of returning to peak 2008 pricing levels in 2012 or early 2013.</div><div> </div><div>“Finally, we are executing to our long-term plans laid out early in the 2010 market recovery. However, we remain very vigilant concerning ongoing globally uncertainties and will continue to keep our cost structure in line and variable in order to respond quickly to any unforeseen market dynamics.”</div><div> </div><div><div><b><u>About Boart Longyear</u></b></div><div>Boart Longyear is a 120-year-old global mineral exploration company that provides mineral exploration services and drilling products for the global mining industry and also has a substantial drilling presence for water exploration, environmental sampling, energy, and oil sands exploration. </div><div> </div><div>Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, with 2010 sales of US$1.476 billion and over 10,000 employees worldwide, the company conducts contract drilling services in over 40 countries, and provides mining products to customers in over 100 countries.
